Hello all!
Today I thought I would try something new and write a blog post. I think I’m going to write more of these as NaNoWriMo continues on.
For those of you who don’t know, NaNoWriMo is National Novel Writing Month, which takes place each November. The goal is to write 50,000 words in 30 days. It seems like quite the challenge! That averages out to 1,667 words a day, which when I wrote yesterday meant somewhere between 5 and 7 pages double spaced in Microsoft Word (11 pt font)
I think most people who know me know that I have always dreamed of writing a novel. I was an avid reader growing up, and books had a huge impact on me as a kid. However, I have a bit of a problem with being a perfectionist, at least when it comes to writing. I overanalyze words, sentences, paragraphs, pages over and over again, so much that I really struggle to write in large quantities. I decided to participate in NaNoWriMo in an attempt to change that. The mentality I’m trying to adopt is “Quantity over Quality”. The thought is, if I get my ideas down, even if they’re poorly written, I can fix them later. I have always struggled with this in the past. I think a large part of the reason is, other people were going to read it. Now, however, I am writing without the stress of knowing someone other than myself is going to read it. I’m hoping that is enough for me to adopt this quantity over quality mentality.
I plan to keep everyone updated, I think I’ll be posting my total word count, average per day, target average per day, and words remaining to reach 50,000 every evening on my Innternet Bard Facebook page. I look forward to taking on this challenge and sharing the experience with you all!
Thanks everyone for your support!
